It didn’t take long for store locations to open in resorts such as Monte Carlo – where they quickly proved themselves a success!

In 1906, Van Cleef & Arpels also opened its first boutique outside of France, in Moscow, Russia. This was followed by stores in London (1909), New York (1913), Geneva (1920), and many other cities around the world. The company became known for its innovative designs, and was responsible for several important jewellery inventions, such as the mystery setting (a way to set diamonds without using metal claws) and the zip necklace (a necklace that opens and closes like a zipper).

Van Cleef & Arpels has been owned by several different companies over the years. It was first acquired by Condé Nast in 1971, then sold to Piaget SA in 1974. In 1999, it was bought by LVMH (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton), one of the largest luxury conglomerates in the world.
