Bvlgari ‘Trombino’ 13ct Cabochon Sapphire & Diamond Ring
Bvlgari is a household name in the area of luxury watches, jewellery and accessories. With a history of over 130 years in the field, the company is the third largest jewellery manufacturer in the world, with revenues of over one billion euros each year. The brand’s beginnings date back to the end of the 19th century when the Bvlgari founder, emigrated to Napels from Greece and opened a jewellery store. In 1905 the company opens its store in 10 pe Via Condotti, which becomes its flagship store .
This Bvlgari ‘Trombino’ Cabochon Sapphire and Diamond Ring is part of Bvlgari history as it is one of the early generations of Trombino rings produced by Bvlgari. ‘Trombino’ is translated ‘little trumpet’ and it was first designed in 1932 by Giorgio Bulgari as en engagement ring for this fiancée. The distinctive feature of the ring is that it allows the gemstone, usually a cabochon, to stay proud of the ring and the shank is paveèd with diamonds graduated to a horizontal line of baguette-cut diamonds. The Trombimo ring remains one of Bvlgari’s most influential designs. One of the most famous Trombino rings was bought by Elizabeth Taylor in 1971. The ring consists of a sugarloaf cabochon sapphire that weighs more than 25 carats, and realised $866,500 when it was sold at Christie’s in 2011.
